pluto astrologyPluto defines a powerful, transforming energy whose effect is relative to its position in the astrology chart. In horoscopes, the presence of Pluto indicates power, elimination, latency, eruption, annihilation, renewal, and regeneration. It is seen as related to subtle underground forces that lie dormant for a time and then suddenly burst forth.

The discovery of Pluto came at the same time as the rise of Nazism, the discussions on splitting the atom, and the rise of mass media. Pluto’s power is the power of the atom, the power of the masses, and the power of the unconscious.

Pluto is forcing us now, to discern the difference between an emotional need and an emotional want. Pluto in Capricorn is a time of facing reality, getting grounded, paying the bills, and being accountable. Pluto in Capricorn meanwhile, is going to be urging people to use sheer force and power to impose their wills, under the guise of necessity. Pluto in Capricorn will try to convince everyone that we don’t need the rule of law, fairness, and due concern with true justice because our collective security is in danger.

Pluto was discovered February 18, 1930 and entered human consciousness in a manifest physical sense as it correlated with the start of the Great Depression. We have to nurture ourselves slowly but surely through this time as we are Plutonically forced to confront outdated ways of seeking emotional security. Skillful balancing here can head off the anger, viciousness, violence and meltdowns possible with a Mars-Pluto opposition.

Venus in Leo brings a playful, heart-centred expression that could also be helpful in dealing with the more tense, possible meltdown-inducing Mars opposition to Pluto. An entire generation was born with Pluto and Uranus conjunct in Virgo; everyone born between August 22 and September 20 in the years 1964 through 1968 will have at least Sun, Uranus, and Pluto in Virgo.

The solar systems slowest moving planet, Pluto, can never be the apex planet, while the Moon (the fastest-moving planet) can never be one of the base planets. During most of Saturn’s current stay in Libra, Pluto will be in Capricorn and Uranus will be in Aries.

Saturn-Pluto aspects signify times of intense challenge, restriction and hard, hard work that, without a doubt, many of us have been feeling. From June 2012 to March 2015, Uranus and Pluto go on to make a series of seven squares in Aries and Capricorn respectively. During the Great Depression Pluto was in Cancer and now will be in the opposite sign of Capricorn.

At the present time Pluto in Capricorn is associated with transformation and crisis in big business, the establishment and the economy. But why has Pluto been included with these the traditional planets which rule economic and financial matters. The answer is that in mythological times Pluto was assigned the underground with all its mineral wealth. Astrologers have long associated Pluto with unconscious and invisible forces and raw primeval power. The name Pluto means “the rich one”. The modern word “plutocracy” refers to the rule of wealth. In the second decade of the 21st century Saturn and Uranus are again both in cardinal signs in stressful aspect to Pluto, although this is not simultaneous.

There is a T-square in the Cardinal signs that involves the Moon, Venus, Saturn and Pluto which seems a good time to revamp your rules of relating to others from an emotional standpoint. Mars is exactly conjunct Saturn, and in tight opposition to the Moon, Jupiter and Uranus which all square Pluto. In June, July and August of 2010, we will be experiencing a series of t-squares with Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn.

If you have important natal points from about 7 degrees through 16 degrees in any of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) your natal chart is going to be activated by the series of seven exact Uranus / Pluto first quarter squares occurring from June 2012 though March 2016. While it is going to be exciting and liberating on a spiritual level, on the physical level it may be stressful as we cope with profound restructuring (Pluto) and disruption (Uranus) of our culture (Saturn) in the U.S.

Most baby boomers born up to mid 1957 have the outer planet Pluto in Leo, so they will experience some confrontational issues surrounding the ego during this period. In other words, if the Saturn/Pluto square has brought about change to your life which manifests during the early part of the year, you may find that this change will give you great relief by mid year.
